A vibrant metropolis where East meets West and ancient meets modern, a holiday to Hong Kong will leave you with unique and unforgettable experiences. Known for its fascinating harmony with over 5,000 years of Chinese tradition, 150 years of British colonial influence and boundless energy for the future, this is a truly unique city that’s constantly changing. With glittering skyscrapers, a prosperous economy and a mix of influences, this is an enigmatic city of bright lights that never sleeps. Come and discover this infectious energy with cheap holiday packages to Hong Kong.
There are many iconic attractions to tick off your list on Hong Kong holidays & honeymoons packages from Dublin. An absolute must though is the rickety tram ride to the top of Victoria Peak, where you’ll be rewarded with spectacular views back over the urban sprawl from the lush and lofty heights of the tallest lookout. The Peak is also home to Madame Tussauds and some shops and restaurants, but the real city action is down below. Wander past modern and traditional attractions in the streets, from Man Mo Temple to the shops and great food-laden districts such as Lan Kwai Fong and SoHo. If you have the kids, don’t miss Ocean Park Hong Kong, or for some adult action, head to Happy Valley Racecourse, bounded by skyscrapers. Victoria Park is fabulous for some respite from the bustle, or retreat to the beach at Shek O, on the south-east side of the island.
Off the main island, the fun continues. Across the water in Kowloon, don’t miss the Avenue of Stars along the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront – the city’s own version of the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Visited at night you’ll catch the Symphony of Lights sound and lights show, or by day drop into the nearby history and science museums. Kowloon is also home to the Temple Street Night Market, one of the cities’ best and most bustling, but also be sure to drop by the fascinating themed markets around Mongkok, from rows of goldfish to great fashions. If you’re looking for some traditional sites, popular favourites are the Wong Tai Sin Temple, the 10,000 Buddha’s Temple, and for great art, the Hong Kong Heritage Museum. Head a little bit further afield to Lantau Island and take the cable car ride to Ngong Ping, where you’ll discover the famous Big Buddha and Po Lin Monastery. Alternatively, you can drop into Hong Kong Disneyland or spot pink dolphins around Lantau.
For those who want to escape the hustle of the modern city, wander the charming Ping Shan Heritage Trail in the New Territories. At just under one mile long, the trail passes through villages and past a number of historic Chinese buildings including pagodas, temples and a walled village, as well as historic ancestral study halls. For beaches, traditional markets and laid back cafes, head to the island’s south coast.
Hong Kong is both a shopper's paradise and a gourmet's delight - an endless range of electronic goods and gourmet cuisines spoil for choice. Get some serious retail therapy at bargain shops or posh departmental stores. The city regales its visitors with a flood of food options spanning cheap street fare as well as hip restaurants. With 10,000 restaurants, eating out is a joy, but choosing is difficult. Do not miss the noodles and cha (tea) as the unique local flavour cannot found anywhere else. Nightlife in Hong Kong electrifies and it is just as impressive as daytime pleasures. You can live the highlife on floor 118 of the Ritz-Carlton at the Ozone bar or head to the popular area of Lan Kwai Fong for its wonderful nightclubs and array of restaurants.
