things to do in new york city

Things to do in New York

I left my heart in New York City when I got the chance to visit with my daughter this year. Neither of us had been before so we were excited, the city that never sleeps certainly lived up to its expectations.

Location

We stayed in the ROW, Times Square. I wasn’t too impressed with the service, but the location couldn’t have been better. Time Square was right on our doorstep and the Empire State Building and Central Park just a short walk away.

What I Loved

Seeing Times Square was a surreal moment. I just loved walking through the square and stopping at the delicious food stalls. The atmosphere is unforgettable!

Activities and Places to See

  • Visiting Ground Zero is very emotional but it is something everyone should experience on a New York holiday.

Things to do in New York

  • The Iconic Wall Street is a must see. I loved seeing the New York stock exchange although the trading floor is closed to the public.

  • Did you even go to New York if you don’t see the Empire State Building? Go to the very top, the views are amazing.

  • I loved admiring the architecture of the Flatiron Building, it is so unique.

  • Central Park is the perfect place to wander. Why not rent a boat and go rowing on the lake?

Shopping

This shopping is really what I loved the most! I could have stayed in Woodbury Commons all day long. Keep some space in your suitcase because designer brands have huge discounts, some as high as 60%!

Food & Bars

As I’ve mentioned already, I loved the food stalls in Time Square. There are plenty of lovely restaurants, but the price can change dramatically depending on the district. We had dinner in STK in the upmarket Meatpacking District one night. The food was great but for 2 starters, 2 mains, 2 sides and 1 glass of wine it was $200! So, avoid these areas if you don’t want to splash the cash.

New York City is best explored by foot. You will see a lot more this way and might even discover places you could have missed on a bus tour. There is something to see around every corner. I can’t wait to go back to the concrete jungle that is NYC.
