Discover Brasilia

Brasilia has been the capital city of Brazil since 1960, and was a planned city constructed in just 4 years. The government wanted to move the capital from Rio de Janeiro inland to protect it from sea attacks. Brasilia was built on the Brazilian highlands in the country’s centre western region. The city has the largest urban park in the world, The National Park of Brasilia, as well as many lakes, parks and open spaces to enjoy.

Brasilia Macro 1

Brasilia may not have the beaches of Rio and the history of Sao Paulo but it is famous for its amazing modern architecture. Jump right in and go see the famous Brazilian Congress, Chamber of Deputies and House of the Parliament. Tourists also flock to the Cathedral of Brasilia which looks like hands reaching to the sky to pray. Check out the structural masterpiece of Juscelino Kubitschek Bridge over Lake Paranoa, which is lit up at night and sparkles beautifully on the water. Visit Palacio da Alvorada ,the official home of the president of Brazil known for its columns, glass facade and lakeside gardens. The National Park of Brasilia has an abundance of nature to explore; Paranoa Lake is fun for swimming and water sports or enjoy Brasilia’s urban oasis, City Park. If you have the time, take a day trip to visit Itiquira Waterfall which is the highest in Brazil and is sure to result in some amazing holiday photos!

Brasilia is an interesting holiday destination suitable for all travellers from solo travellers and couples to families. Tourists tend to stay at good quality high rise hotels which are available at reasonable prices.
