The home of luxurious resorts, never ending beaches and Mayan ruins, Mexico deserves its nickname, ‘The Land of Enchantment’. I was lucky to enough to visit this beautiful country, courtesy of AM Resorts, who own many luxurious hotels across the country. I had a blast and couldn’t get over the incredible hospitality, I will definitely be returning.
I visited many hotel’s in Cancun’s Hotel Zone as well as, Playa Mujeres, Riviera Maya and Tulum. One of my favourite hotels was Secrets the Vine in Cancun’s Hotel Zone, roughly 30 minutes from Cancun Airport. This luxurious adults-only haven is surrounded by white sand beaches and the hospitality is unbelievable. I didn’t want to leave!
Roughly an hour south of Cancun is Riviera Maya. This was the home of another favourite hotel of mine, The Secrets Akumal. This property is great for couples as it is also adults only. It is surrounded by the beautiful beaches of Akumal which offer amazing snorkelling opportunities. Afterall, the name means ‘Place of the Turtle’.
I loved the luxury of the hotels I visited. The service from the staff was world class and the properties themselves were stunning. I really enjoyed lazing on the never-ending white sand beaches or by the pool. The views, the people and the weather could not be faulted, a Mexico holiday is idyllic.
Snorkel with the sea turtles of Akumal! Seeing these beautiful creatures in the wild is an experience you won’t forget.
A visit to the Mayan ruins in Tulum is a must on a Mexico holiday. They are located only 45 minutes from Riviera Maya, so it is easily accessible by taxi. However always use a registered taxi!
Playa del Carmen is a great place to go sightseeing. There are many Mayan ruins, museums and unique parks to explore. Fifth Avenue has some great shopping opportunities too!
The big hotels have some small boutique stores, but Cancun’s hotel zone has some of the best shopping opportunities. La Isla Shopping Village was my personal favourite, there are many shops to choose from including Zara, Hugo Boss and Calvin Klein. The shopping centre even has a canal running through it, which you can take a Gondola ride on.
There were plenty of stunning restaurants and buffets in all the hotels I stayed in. If you plan on eating out, Senor Frogs in the Hotel Zone had some great Mexican food! It is also a popular nightclub, as is Coco Bongos.
There were so many amazing beaches on this trip! However, I think my favourite would have to be Akumal Beach, I could lay here all day.
As I had never been to Mexico, I was curious to see what it was all about, I was not disappointed. The hotels, the beaches, the food, everything was amazing! A lot of the hotels I visited were adult-only making it the perfect romantic escape for couples. However, if you’re travelling with children the Dreams properties are filled with activities to keep the little ones entertained too. My final tips would be, to bear in mind that Hurricane season is between August and September and don’t forget your mosquito spray. Book your Mexico holiday ASAP and thank me later!
