Alison's Trip to Jamaica

Jamaica FAM Trip

Our journey to Jamaica with Virgin Atlantic and the Jamaica Tourist Board was an unforgettable escape filled with sunshine, culture, and relaxation. From the moment we arrived in Montego Bay, we were greeted with warm smiles, golden beaches, and vibrant island life. With rich history, lively music, and luxurious resorts, Jamaica proved the perfect destination for adventure and tranquillity alike.

Location

Our Jamaican adventure began with a smooth Virgin Atlantic flight from London Heathrow to Montego Bay, departing at 2:30 p.m. which is perfect for Irish connections. After a relaxed nine-hour journey, we landed to warm Caribbean air and friendly smiles. A quick thirty-minute transfer brought us to our hotel, ready to experience paradise.

What I Loved

The hotel exceeded expectations, offering excellent standards with a wide variety of delicious food and branded drinks on offer. We enjoyed the fascinating Rose Hall Great House experience, rich in history and charm. The beautiful beaches, with their soft white sand and crystal-clear waters, provided the perfect setting for ultimate relaxation.

Activities & Places to See

  • Dunn’s River Falls – One of Jamaica’s most famous natural attractions, where visitors can climb cascading waterfalls and enjoy the lush tropical surroundings. Unfortunately, it was closed due to weather during our visit, so it’s best to check ahead and avoid days when cruise ships are in port.
  • Bob Marley Museum – Located in Kingston, this former home of the reggae legend offers an intimate look into his life, music, and legacy, featuring personal artefacts, memorabilia, and guided tours.
  • Rick’s Café – A lively spot in Negril, famous for its breathtaking sunsets, live music, and daring cliff diving into the clear Caribbean waters below.
  • Rose Hall Great House – A beautifully restored Georgian mansion near Montego Bay, known for its fascinating history and ghostly legends surrounding the infamous White Witch of Rose Hall.

Shopping & Nightlife

Shopping is centred around small American-style malls, which are best reached by hiring a car or driver. Nightlife tends to be hotel-based, offering entertainment and bars within the resorts.

Overall Overview

Jamaica is a truly beautiful island, blessed with stunning beaches, lush scenery, and impressive resort-style hotels that offer everything you could wish for in a Caribbean escape. During our visit, we felt safe and welcomed in every area we visited. It’s an island full of warmth, charm, and vibrant culture - and one I would definitely return to for my own holiday.
